ANNUAL REPORT 2010-2011

Annual Report 2007-2008

I am very honoured to have been appointed Chair of the WCA for the current term, and to have the opportunity to work with a group of women who are so committed to strengthening the organization and making London a better place to live. Many thanks to all new and continuing Board members for their dedication, hard work and support.

Over the past year, the WCA Board refined its values to include Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence (“CARE”). This Annual Report provides you with a glimpse into how we at the WCA, McCormick Home, Alzheimer Outreach Services of McCormick Home (AOS) and Wellspring London and Region, demonstrate these core values.

The art selected for the cover of this year’s Annual Report is a painting of the century old oak tree on the property of the new McCormick Home, the site of the AOS program and our WCA administrative offices. It was created by one of the participants in the AOS Day Program, nicknamed “The Club.”

Recognized as one of London’s “most amazing trees” by Reforest London, this tree is a fitting emblem of the WCA, whose roots date back to 1874, making it one of the oldest nonprofit organizations in Canada. When the new McCormick Home was built, rather than tearing down this tree, the WCA committed to preserve it. This tree is very much a symbol of what the WCA represents: heritage, strength, durability and growth, with its roots and branches stretching and reaching outward.

Like this tree, the WCA is firmly rooted in the London community. Over the years, the WCA has continued its legacy of providing compassionate care to those in need. It remains focused on fulfilling its vision: Innovative leaders enhancing the lives of people dealing with the challenges of aging.

While the WCA remains grounded in its core services of compassionate, supportive care for the frail and vulnerable, it is also continually growing and implementing innovative methods to improve the independence and quality of life of the people we serve. We continue to implement our Strategic Directions 2009-2012, including helping to transition Wellspring into an independent organization. We are also seeking opportunities to enhance the services provided by McCormick Home and AOS to those with Alzheimer Disease and related dementias by leveraging our existing knowledge and expertise.
